“Seva” is a Sanskrit word meaning “selfless service” or work performed without any thought of reward or repayment. In ancient India seva was believed to help one’s spiritual growth and at the same time contribute to the improvement of a community. This is the art of giving with no need to receive, where the act itself is a gift to everyone involved. Seva is the art of blessed action.
Here are some of the organizations we support in an ongoing basis, with the help of our incredible guests. If you wish to support any of these wonderful, trusted organizations, we are happy to accept your donation and pass it on to them with no admin costs.
Puedo Leer Library started in 2004 and is the first free lending library in Granada. They are a non-profit organization and all of their programs and projects are free to the community of Granada. There are currently two library locations (one in the center of Granada, the other one in El Pantanal, an impoverished neighborhood in the outskirts of Granada) with the largest collection of books in the area. Apart from the library, Puedo Leer runs several programs such as a Reading Corner in the park, book bag distribution for the local schools to have new reading material for the kids, library training for teachers and much more. They are a wonderful organization that we are proud to support in any way we can, as we believe education is key for this country.
Ways you can support them:
Bring good quality used or new books to donate when you visit us. Preferably books in Spanish, but in English are welcomed too.
Make a cash donation in person or by Paypal. In Paypal you can send the money to email@example.com and include “Puedo Leer Donation” on the message.
Enjoy a walking tour into some of Granada’s most beautiful and colonial historic homes. Learn about the history of Granada, take in the beauty of the Spanish architecture, and experience breathtaking, private views from some of the oldest houses in the city. All proceeds from this specific tour benefit this project, providing books, education, and activities for the children. The cost of the Colonial Tour is $15 USD per person (minimum 2 people required) and we can book it for you during your stay with us. If you wish to include return transport as well, the total cost would be $33 USD per person (different transport rates apply depending on the number of people, enquire for more details).
Visit the library during your stay with us, or maybe help out in the delivery of book bags to the schools which happens every wednesday. We will be happy to make arrangements for you.
