Granada City & The 365 Isletas

This half-day trip allows you to enjoy a tour of the colorful colonial city of Granada and a boat/SUP trip through Las Isletas in Lake Cocibolca, the great lake of Nicaragua.

Situated at the foot of the impressive Mombacho Volcano, Granada drips with photogenic elegance, a picture postcard at every turn. Visit the Cathedral and the Convento de San Francisco (oldest church in Central America), then take a stroll down the pinturesque Calzada street with its cafés and restaurants. After the city tour, you will head over to the Marina Cocibolca to board your boat for a tour of Las Isletas. Alternatively, we also offer the option to take a SUP tour instead.

Las Isletas consist of around 365 small volcanic islands which were formed when the Mombacho Volcano erupted about 20,000 years ago. Today, many of the small islands are inhabited by families who make their living from fishing, while other islands play host to extravagant villas owned by Nicaragua’s rich and famous. An additional point of interest is the San Pablo fort that was built in the 18th century to protect Granada against English pirates.

Granada is located only a 40 minute drive from Apoyo Lodge, and this tour is available in the morning or afternoon.

Masaya's Markets & Volcano National Park

This half day tour includes a visit to the town of Masaya, the Nicaraguan capital of folklore and handicrafts, and a trip to the Masaya Volcano National Park where you can admire the majestic and imposing crater of Santiago, the most heavily venting volcano in Nicaragua.

Masaya's Artisan Market is a wonderful place to stroll , with attractive booths separated by wide and breezy walkways, showcasing the highest quality crafts in the country.  Its Local Market is the biggest one in the country outside of Managua, and a great place to inmerse yourself in typical Nicaraguan day to day way of life.

Masaya Volcano National Park is an unmissable visit whilst in Nicaragua, as it is not every day you get to take a peek inside an active volcano. The Spaniards called it "The Gate to Hell" for a very good reason. This visit is available both during day time, to be able to explore the hiking trails around the park, or in the evening, to get a chance to see the lava in its full glory.

Masaya is located a mere 25 minutes from Apoyo Lodge.
